Characteristics and Applications of Z4 (100-450) DC Motor

The Z4 series DC motor is our main product, widely used as a transmission source for various types of machinery, such as metallurgical industry rolling mill transmission, metal cutting machine tools, papermaking, printing, textile, printing and dyeing, cement, plastic extrusion machinery, and so on.


The external installation dimensions of this series of motors comply with the IEC72 international standard, except for the axial dimension 'B' between the two foot holes.

The performance and technical requirements of this series of motors can be assessed in accordance with the International Electrotechnical Commission standards, IEC34-1, or the West German national standard DIN57530.

This series of motors adopts a polygonal structure with high space utilization. The stator yoke is laminated and suitable for rectifier power supply. It can withstand the working conditions of pulsating current and rapid changes in current (load changes). The magnetic pole installation has precise positioning, so the commutation is good.


The insulation level of the motor is F level, and a reliable insulation structure and immersion process are adopted to ensure stable insulation performance and good heat dissipation.

This series of motors has the characteristics of small size, good performance, light weight, high output power, high efficiency, and high reliability, which can compete with the current international advanced level of motors

The electric motor can operate for a long time using a three-phase fully controlled rectifier power supply and an external smoothing reactor. A motor with a rated voltage of 160V is powered by a single-phase bridge power supply, and a reactor must be connected to the armature circuit to suppress pulsating current. The inductance value is shown in the table.


Z4 (100-450) DC Motor Performance

The data in the technical data sheet should work according to the following usage conditions

a. The sea level shall not exceed 1000m;

b. The ambient air temperature shall not exceed 40 ℃;

c. The working environment should not contain acidic, alkaline, or other gases that can corrode the insulation;

d. The motor operates continuously (S1);

e. The armature circuit and excitation circuit of the electric motor can be powered by a static rectification power supply, and are also suitable for being powered by a DC generator;

f. The performance of this series of motors can meet the national standard JB6316 "Technical Conditions for Z4 Series DC Motors".


2. The standard rated voltage of the motor is 160V and 440V. Depending on the specific situation, 220V, 400V, 660V or other voltages can also be derived.


3. The rated speed of the motor has nine levels: 3000, 1500, 1000, 750, 600, 500, 400, 300, and 200 r/min.

Reduce the armature voltage to constant torque speed regulation and reduce the excitation voltage to constant power speed regulation. The speed range is shown in the technical data sheet (Table 2) The load multiples at different speed ranges are shown in the appendix. When using voltage regulation for speed regulation below the rated voltage, the torque is constant. The minimum speed is specified as not less than 20r/min, at which point the rated torque can still be maintained and the speed is stable.


The basic excitation method of the electric motor is separate excitation, with a standard excitation voltage of 180V. Other excitation voltages can also be negotiated.

The motor is allowed to be forcibly excited, and the forced excitation voltage shall not exceed 500V. During normal operation of the motor, the excitation current shall not exceed the rated excitation current.

To ensure the reliability of the excitation system insulation, a release resistor should be connected in parallel at both ends of the excitation winding to prevent self induced potential when disconnecting the excitation circuit. At standard excitation voltage, its value is approximately seven times the excitation winding resistance (cold state). When the excitation voltage is higher than the standard voltage; The parallel release resistance value can be less than seven times, otherwise it is greater than seven times.


Z4-315, Z4-355, Z4-400, and Z4-450 four machine bases are equipped with compensation windings. It is also possible to derive motors with compensation groups from the two machine base numbers Z4-250 and Z4-280


6. The motor is provided with terminal posts marked with grounding.


The efficiency value in the technical data sheet is the efficiency at rated power, rated voltage, and speed, which includes excitation losses and does not include blower losses.

Note: The letter "B" indicates the presence of a compensator winding and is only applicable to the two machine base numbers Z4-250 and Z4-280.

**The numbers 1 and 2 represent short and long end caps.

***For the Z4-112 machine base, the first number represents the number of poles, and the second number represents the length of the iron core.

****The letter "Z" means DC motor, and the number "4" is the fourth series design number.


Introduction to the Structure of Z4 (100-450) DC Motor

1. Protection and installation structure of motor

a、 The entire series of protective measures are IP21S.

b、 The installation method complies with the international GB/T997 regulations, and this series has the following installation methods:

2. Cooling method

The cooling method of the motor is external cooling and forced ventilation. It is equipped with a radial mounted blower, independent power supply, and an air filter. The motor can be made into three cooling methods: IC06, IC17, and IC37.

a.Z4-100~Z4-160, The blower is installed on the non transmission side.

b.Z4-180~Z4-450, The blower is installed on the transmission side.

c、 The required cooling air volume, air pressure, and fan motor power for each aircraft seat number are: (see Table 1)

The following five cooling methods are also acceptable for ordering; But we need to consult first.

a. The center height of 100 to 250 machine bases can be used to make IC410 fully enclosed self cooling motors.

b. The machine base with a center height of 180 to 250 can be made into an IC05 blower, which can be installed on the non drive side of the motor as a air-cooled motor.

C. The machine base with a center height of 100 to 200 can be made into a self cooling motor with a built-in fan on the IC01 motor shaft.

d. The machine base with a center height of 160 to 355 can be used to produce IC666 motors with independent air/air coolers and fully enclosed cooling air circulation.

e. The center height of 160 to 450 machine bases can be used to make IC86W motors with independent air/water coolers and fully enclosed motors.


3. The position of the outlet box, when viewed from the transmission side, is on the right side of the machine base. It can also be installed on the left or upper side of the machine base as needed.

4. The motor can be equipped with accessories such as a speed measuring generator on the non transmission end.

5. The transmission method of the motor is elastic coupling connection. The coordination of the crew must be carefully aligned.

For transmission methods with radial force (belt or gear transmission), the allowable radial force they can withstand should not exceed the values on the following curve. The motor has a compact and beautiful design. The output box is spacious and easy to connect and maintain.
