Measuring principle
Residual chlorine can be divided into two types based on its form of existence: free residual chlorine and compound residual chlorine. Free residual chlorine contains Cl2, HClO, ClO -, which has fast sterilization speed and strong sterilization ability, but disappears quickly. The residual chlorine commonly referred to is free residual chlorine. Compound residual chlorine refers to the compound of chlorine and ammonia in water, which includes three types: monochloramine, dichloroamine, and trichloroamine. Dichloroamine is more stable and has good bactericidal effect. The sum of free residual chlorine and compound residual chlorine is the total residual chlorine (also known as total chlorine).
Add a buffer solution without iodide to the sample - under this condition, the residual chlorine will not be detected. Then add DPD (N, N-diethyl-phenylenediamine) reagent to generate a red complex. Measure the absorbance at 524 nm and calculate the concentration of free residual chlorine. Then add iodide and measure the absorbance again to calculate the concentration of total chlorine.
