Liquefied petroleum gas is a basic chemical raw material and a new type of fuel, mainly composed of butene, propylene, butane, and propane. It is filled in steel cylinders and sealed with ordinary rubber materials.
Dimethyl ether is mostly produced by dehydration of formaldehyde and has similar characteristics to liquefied petroleum gas, making it suitable for use as a clean fuel. Through experiments, it has been found that dimethyl ether has swelling properties for some rubber materials, which can reduce the sealing performance of rubber materials. So the sealing material for dimethyl ether needs to be selected from special rubber materials, and the bottle body of the filling bottle should be clearly marked with the word dimethyl ether.
However, in the market, the price per ton of liquefied dimethyl ether is much lower than that of liquefied petroleum gas, so there are illegal vendors who mix dimethyl ether with liquefied petroleum gas for filling and selling, illegally profiting. If liquefied petroleum gas containing dimethyl ether is used for long-term filling, it will cause liquefied gas leakage due to the swelling effect of dimethyl ether on rubber seals, posing a threat to people's life safety. Therefore, the national standardGB 11174-2011 "Liquefied Petroleum Gas"It is prohibited to mix dimethyl ether with liquefied petroleum gas, but it is stipulated to use gas chromatography to detect the composition of liquefied petroleum gas.
