1.6 Electrode size and installation
1.6.1 Electrode type and size
The ORP composite electrode made of high-purity platinum has strong acid and alkali resistance and oxidation resistance, high measurement accuracy, fast response, and good stability. The electrode can automatically compensate according to temperature.
1.6.2 Electrode Installation
1. Submerged installation: The lead of the ORP electrode is threaded out of the waterproof tube, and the 3/4 thread on the top of the ORP electrode is connected to the 3/4 thread of the waterproof tube with a tape. Ensure that the top of the electrode and the electrode wires are not flooded with water.2. Pipeline installation: Connect the ORP electrode 3/4 thread to the pipeline.
2. Equipment usage instructions
2.1 Wiring Instructions
| Instructions | Instructions | |
| power supply | brown | Positive power supply (10~30VDC) For 0-10V output devices, only 24V power supply is allowed |

2.2 Calculation Method
2.2.1 Current type output signal conversion calculation
For example, with a range of -1999~1999mV and an output of 4~20mA, calculate the current ORP value when the output signal is 12mA. The span of this ORP range is 3998, expressed as a 16mA current signal. 3998/16mA=249.875mV/mA, which means 1mA of current represents a change in ORP of 249.875mV. The measured value is 12mA-4mA=8mA. 8mA*250mV/mA=1999mV。 1999-1999=0mV, The current ORP value is 0mV.2.2.2 Voltage type output signal conversion calculation
For example, with a range of -1999~1999mV and an output of 0~10V, calculate the current ORP value when the output signal is 5V. The span of this ORP range is 3998, expressed as a 10V voltage signal. 3998/10V=399.8mV/V, meaning that a voltage of 1V represents an ORP change of 399.8mV. The measured value is 5V * 399.8mV/mA=1999mV. 1999-1999=0mV, The current ORP value is 0mV.3. Precautions and Maintenance
The equipment itself generally does not require daily maintenance. In case of obvious malfunctions, please do not open it for self repair and contact us as soon as possible! There is an appropriate amount of soaking solution in the protective bottle at the front end of the electrode, and the electrode tip is soaked in it to ensure the activation of the platinum plate and the liquid interface. When measuring, loosen the bottle cap, remove the electrode, and rinse with pure water before use.
Preparation of electrode soaking solution: Dissolve 25 grams of analytical grade potassium chloride in 100 milliliters of pure water to prepare a 3.3M potassium chloride solution.
Before measurement, the bubbles inside the electrode glass bubble should be thrown away, otherwise it will affect the measurement. During measurement, the electrode should be stirred in the measured solution and placed still to accelerate the response.
Clean the electrodes with deionized water before and after measurement to ensure accuracy.
After long-term use, ORP electrodes will become passivated due to a decrease in sensitivity gradient, slow response, and inaccurate readings. At this time, the platinum plate at the bottom of the electrode can be soaked in 0.1M dilute hydrochloric acid for 24 hours (0.1M dilute hydrochloric acid preparation: 9 milliliters of hydrochloric acid diluted to 1000 milliliters with distilled water), and then soaked in 3.3M potassium chloride solution for 24 hours to restore its performance.
Electrode contamination or liquid interface blockage can also cause electrode passivation. In this case, appropriate solution cleaning should be carried out according to the properties of the pollutant, as shown in the table below (for reference)
Pollutant: Cleaning agent:
Inorganic metal oxides below 1M dilute acid
Organic oil-based detergent (weakly alkaline)
Resin polymer substances such as alcohol, acetone, and ether
Protein blood sediment acidic enzyme solution
Dilute bleaching solution of pigment substances, hydrogen peroxide
If the platinum electrode is heavily contaminated and forms an oxide film, toothpaste can be applied to the surface of the platinum and gently wiped to restore its luster.
