Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system, which is a tetragonal granular or rhombic crystal. It is colorless and transparent, and the aggregate has a white, rose or green glass luster. The shape can be fibrous, needle like, granular, or powder. Odorless, cool, with a bitter and salty taste, with a relative density of 1.67-1.71. Easy to dissolve in water, slowly soluble in glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol, neutral in aqueous solution, stable in humid air below 48.1 ℃, easily weathered in warm and dry air. When above 48.1 ℃, it loses one crystal water and becomes hexahydrate magnesium sulfate. At 67.5 ℃, it dissolves in its own crystal water and precipitates monohydrate magnesium sulfate. At 70-80 ℃, it loses four crystal water, five crystal water at 100 ℃, six crystal water at 150 ℃, and all crystal water at 200 ℃, becoming powdery anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The dehydrated product is placed in humid air to absorb moisture again.
