Biogas is a combustible gas produced by anaerobic digestion of organic matter. Its characteristics are similar to natural gas, making it a good clean fuel and a renewable energy source. However, the hydrogen sulfide (H2S) component contained in biogas has strong corrosiveness, which can damage downstream equipment during utilization and emit sulfur oxides during combustion, causing pollution to the environment. Therefore, it greatly limits our utilization of biogas.

Why do we need to desulfurize biogas?

During anaerobic digestion, sulfur-containing compounds are converted into H2S. Generally, the H2S content in biogas is between 0.1-0.2%. H2S has strong corrosiveness, which not only causes corrosion of pipelines, valves, and flow meters, but also causes significant damage to internal combustion engines. After H2S combustion, sulfuric acid is formed, which reduces the frequency of engine oil replacement, shortens the service life of equipment, and increases the cost of equipment maintenance, replacement, and upkeep. Meanwhile, the combustion of H2S can also cause pollution to the atmospheric environment. Using safe biological methods to remove H2S from biogas not only ensures longer and more efficient operation of your equipment, but more importantly, improves efficiency and saves you time and money.

System working principle

The biogas desulfurization system is an aerobic biological drip filtration system that uses pressure air supply and upstream structure. Biogas enters the drip filter tower from the bottom of the system and passes through the filter material from bottom to top. The specially developed filter material provides ideal conditions for the growth of acid bacteria biofilm while also providing sufficient space for gas to freely pass through. The filter material and biofilm are maintained in their humidity by a circulating water system. When biogas enters the system and comes into contact with biofilm, hydrogen sulfide first dissolves and is further oxidized and decomposed by microorganisms. The formed elemental sulfur and sulfate compounds are discharged as system by-products from the effluent of the circulating water system,

Inject a small amount of gas into the system to maintain the oxygen content of the gas and meet the requirements for optimal biological activity. The system design will control the oxygen content in the processed gas, with multiple joint safety interlock devices to ensure that the oxygen content remains below the minimum explosive limit at all times.
