Non disturbance VOC sampling of soil
(1) Standard Practice for Sampling and Storing Soil for Analyzing Volatile Organic Compounds Using a Disposable Core Sampler (White Plastic Sampling Tube)
(2)EPA SW-846 Method 5035A
Closed-system purge-and-trap and extraction for volatile organics in soil and waste samples
(3) National Environmental Protection Standard HJ605-2011 of the People's Republic of China
Determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soil and sediment by blow sweep capture gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
When sampling this method, a field protection tool is used to ensure the effectiveness of the sample and reduce losses during the sampling process
usage method:
Install the injection sleeve onto the sampling handle, collect 5g, 10g, or 13g samples (with adjustable range) into the sleeve, and then directly inject them into the VOC sampling bottle (40mL brown bottle), and then cap it with a bottle cap.
Attention to Non Disturbed VOC Sampling in Soil:
The sample bottles brought to the site should be protected with a protective agent and weighed and numbered in the laboratory with a note
Usually, VOC bottles have an open cap. To prevent contamination of the bottle mouth and gasket during the sampling process, anti fouling caps can be selected if conditions permit
Step 1- Load the sampling device
Insert the sampling sleeve into the corresponding slot on the sampling handle and remove the end cap from the sampling sleeve. If sampling for EPA method 5035A low-level protocol, insert the syringe into one of the three 5-gram positions. For dense clay, use heavy positioning; For dry sandy soil, use light locations; For all other soils, use a moderate position. There are also three 10 gram and one 13 gram positions to accommodate other methods.
Step 2- Collect Samples
Push the sampling sleeve into the newly exposed soil. Continue pushing until the soil column inside the syringe forces the plunger to reach the stop point. Wipe off all debris on the outside of the sampling sleeve. The soil plug should be level with the mouth of the sampler. Remove excess soil beyond the sampler port. The sampling sleeve can provide approximately 5, 10, or 13 grams. The actual weight will be determined in the laboratory.
Step 3- Inject the sample into the small bottle
Remove the sampling sleeve from the sampling handle. Insert the sampling sleeve into the open end of a pre coated 40ml vial with appropriate preservatives. Push the plunger of the syringe to squeeze the sample out of the small bottle. Avoid dirtying the threads of the 40ml small bottle.
Immediately cap the bottle and place it on ice or keep it at 4 ° C. Option: Refill the sampling handle and bottle cap to use as a dry weight container.
