The D type is a standard type and commonly used specification. The C type is used for measuring the hardness of surface hardened components, surface coatings, and thin walls. The DC type is used for measuring in very confined areas (inside holes, inside cylindrical circles). The D+15 type is mainly used for measuring narrow grooves and deep holes.
