The HVS-1000ZCM touch screen automatic turret digital microhardness tester is a new type of hardness tester that combines precision machinery with optical, electrical, and computer software. It can be used to test Vickers or Knoop hardness by inputting the measured diagonal values into an integrated calculator to calculate the hardness value. The testing conducted on this machine follows the relevant standards of ASTM and ISO.
The HVS-1000ZCM touch screen automatic turret digital microhardness tester is most suitable for testing metal structures, including small parts, thin plates, metal foils, high-quality wires, thin hardened layers, and electroplated layers. It can also be used to test non-metallic materials such as glass, jewelry, and ceramics that cannot be tested using the Rockwell test method and other relatively large force tests. Especially, it can follow the structure of metals and test the internal hardness of materials such as induction hardening or carburization.
The test consists of two parts. In the first part, the diamond indenter is driven by a known magnitude of force and pressed into the surface of the tested material. In the second part, the user measures the diagonal length of the indentation and inputs the measured reading into the host, which then calculates the corresponding Vickers or Knoop hardness value.
The difference between Vickers and Nusselt tests is that they use different indenters, and Vickers needs to measure the length of two diagonals, while Nusselt only needs to measure one. The Vickers indenter is a pyramid shaped indenter with a square base, while the Nusselt indenter is a pyramid shaped indenter with a diamond base. The details regarding the shape and geometric characteristics of the indenter, as well as the testing method, will be explained in later paragraphs of this chapter. Meanwhile, Vickers testing is described in ASTME92, E384, and EN-ISO-6507; The Nusselt test is described in ASTME384, EN ISO 9385, and ISO 4546.
