The historical status and development of Chinese fan coil units have undergone several different changes. In the early stages, the understanding of fan coil units was limited to mainly meeting the requirements of air volume. Believe that as long as the air volume is high, it meets the requirements and is a good fan coil unit. Under the guidance of this concept, the main characteristic of the fan coil units produced at that time was that the air volume generally exceeded the standard, resulting in high unit noise and energy consumption. The unit power cooling capacity of the fan coil units produced at that time was only about 40W. Due to the loud noise, people at that time had to endure the annoying noise while enjoying the cool air brought by air conditioning.
In order to solve the above problems, the country has started to revise the product standards for fan coil units. In 2003, GB/T 19232-2003 "Fan Coil Unit" was promulgated and implemented to strictly regulate the various performance indicators of fan coil units. The full performance index testing should include air volume, cooling capacity, heating capacity, water resistance, condensation, and condensation water treatment. In response to quality issues in engineering applications, GB 50411-2007 Code for Acceptance of Construction Quality of Building Energy saving Engineering, issued in 2007, stipulates in section 10.2.2 that "when the fan coil unit and insulation material enter the site, their following technical performance parameters should be retested, and the retest should be witnessed sampling and sent for inspection. The cooling capacity, heating capacity, air volume, outlet static pressure, noise and power of the fan coil unit should be randomly sampled and sent for inspection on site, and the retest report should be verified. The inspection quantity: 2% of the fan coil units from the same manufacturer should be retested according to the quantity, but not less than 2 units.
In recent years, China's fan coil manufacturing industry has developed rapidly, and the annual output has surged from thousands of units in the early 1980s to several million units currently. In the mid-1980s, foreign fan coil manufacturing companies represented by American companies such as Trane, York, and Carrier had successively completed product upgrades and launched a new generation of products. At that time, the Chinese air conditioning industry was intoxicated by the fact that domestically produced fan coil units were close to foreign products in isolated parameters such as cooling capacity and noise, while ignoring the real gap in comprehensive performance and usage effects. As a result, this product update did not cause any response in the Chinese air conditioning industry. But after entering the year 2000, with the implementation of several domestic standards and specifications, domestic air conditioning companies caught up. Currently, the new generation of fan coil units is not much different from foreign products in terms of performance, variety, and domestic products. Moreover, the production bases and research and development centers of foreign companies have also moved to China.
Due to the advantages of easy regulation, easy installation, and low cost of fan coil systems, their application fields are constantly expanding, and the types of products are also increasing. When traditional large-scale centralized air conditioning and split type household air conditioning cannot meet the requirements of modern civilization for living environment grade and residential management, the concept of household central air conditioning emerged, and fan coil units played an indispensable role in it. For example, air-cooled hot and cold water units combined with fan coil units (such as Trane), air-cooled hot and cold water units combined with fan coil units and underfloor heating units (such as Tsinghua Solan), water (ground) source heat pump units combined with fan coil units, air-cooled chiller units combined with household boilers and fan coil units (such as Yueke), etc. Household central air conditioning is a new concept that has only emerged in China in recent years, but it has been applied for nearly half a century in the United States. At present, household central air conditioning is becoming a condition for Chinese real estate developers to improve the quality of their buildings and for homeowners to enhance their living standards.
