Ethylene oxide is a commonly used sterilizing agent for medical devices, which has the characteristics of strong penetration ability and good sterilization effect, and is widely used in the disinfection of medical supplies. However, ethylene oxide itself is a toxic gas. If the sterilized product cannot fully evaporate the ethylene oxide gas and the residual toxicity reaches a certain level, it will pose a threat to the human body.

At present, the most effective method for detecting residual organic solvents in medical device epoxyethane and packaging materials is headspace gas chromatography. The GC-7900 dedicated gas chromatograph is combined with a headspace sampler to heat and equilibrate the tested sample (gas-liquid or gas-solid), and directly extract the top gas and inject it into the gas chromatograph. The residual solvent components and content are detected using a hydrogen flame. Headspace gas chromatography is easy to operate, has good separation efficiency, and high analysis efficiency. This instrument is particularly suitable for the analysis of volatile trace components and is an essential testing instrument for quality control of medical device sterilization.
