The heating capacity of a muffle furnace that surrounds the entire workpiece is determined by the surface area of the workpiece, the blackness of the workpiece, and the condition of the muffle inner wall (temperature, area, blackness). But in the case where these variables are the same as each other, the heating capacity of the muffle is still slightly smaller than that of a direct combustion furnace (with the same wall temperature), because the combustion products are hotter than the furnace wall, and there are no combustion products inside the muffle.
For a muffle that surrounds the entire workpiece, attention must be paid to the following situation: the muffle wall has thermal resistance, so the inner side of the muffle wall is colder than the outer side. Also, because the muffle is a radiation screen located between the furnace wall and the workpiece, this radiation screen can reduce the heat transfer (referring to solid radiation heat transfer) by half, so the outer side of the muffle wall is colder than the refractory material of the furnace wall around it. This can be proven by the following reasoning: Let the area with a temperature of radiate towards an area w of the same size with a temperature of r2, So the hourly heat transfer Q=(7V-7V). If there is an extremely thin wall between these two areas, it will quickly reach an intermediate temperature to maintain temperature balance.
