1. Why does the boiler steam V-cone flowmeter only require such a short straight pipe section? People in the instrumentation industry know that traditional differential pressure instruments such as orifice plates must add a long straight pipe section (about 20D to 50D) upstream in order to fully develop the fluid flow state and reproduce the flow state under laboratory conditions. However, this demanding requirement is often not met due to the complexity of the on-site situation, resulting in a decrease in accuracy and an increase in errors (which usually do not attract people's attention). Therefore, flow meters such as orifice plates cannot obtain accurate measurement values without meeting the conditions of straight pipe sections. Especially in March 2003, the International Organization for Standardization released the newly revised ISO 5167 standard, with the most significant change being the introduction of new and extended requirements for the minimum straight pipe section upstream of orifice plates and other throttling devices. For example, if an orifice plate with a β value of 0.6 is installed on a single 90. After the bend, according to the old standard, the minimum length of the straight pipe section is 18D, while the new standard is 42D. If there is no such long position on site and you do not want to reduce the measurement accuracy, the only way is to add a flow rectifier. For this example, a rectifier with 19 tube bundles needs to be added at the upstream location of 13d. The situation of additional errors caused by the length of the straight pipe section not meeting the requirements is almost everywhere. The deviation direction of this error needs to be analyzed according to the specific situation, but the magnitude of the value can be found to be around ± 0.5% to ± 5% or even larger.

2. What is a fully developed pipeline flow? When a fluid flows through a pipeline, the flow state no longer changes as it passes through various sections of the pipeline. This flow state is called fully developed flow, commonly known as "fully developed pipe flow". When a fluid flows in a pipeline and encounters any obstruction (such as bends, valves, pipe diameter changes, measuring elements of instruments, etc.), the flow state will change, and the degree of change (bias flow, secondary flow, vortex flow, and amplitude) will be qualitatively and quantitatively determined according to the specific situation of the obstruction. However, one thing is certain, that is, the flow state is not fully developed pipe flow. It takes a very long straight pipe section to restore fully developed flow.

3. The long straight pipe section required for traditional differential pressure instruments such as orifice plates for fluid specific rectification function of boiler steam V-cone flow meters has been the most headache for instrument personnel for many years. The problem of long straight pipe sections, which has plagued the field of flow measurement for many years, has been well solved in tower flowmeters.
